AI in the service desk
AI service desks compared: suggest or resolve?
Almost every ITSM has AI by now. Some AI suggests categories and answers, other AI resets passwords, grants access and fixes the laptop. Here you will find the approaches, the criteria for comparing them and the questions to ask every vendor. nara is one of those vendors.
Four ways to bring AI into the service desk
AI reaches the service desk in four ways: built into the ITSM suite, as an AI assistant on top of existing systems, built in-house with a tool such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, or as an AI-native ITSM where the ticket system and the AI agent are one product. Gartner rates the market in its own Magic Quadrant for AI applications in IT service management; the 2026 edition came out on 17 August and covers nine vendors. [1]
Seven points matter for your comparison: whether the AI sees requests through, where employees reach it, whether it acts on the device, where it processes your data, how it is billed, whether a ticket system is included and how much effort setup takes.

Examples
ServiceNow (Otto), Jira Service Management (Rovo), Freshservice (Freddy), Matrix42 (Intelligence), TOPdesk
Microsoft Copilot Studio, including the Employee Self-Service agent
nara; internationally, for example Atomicwork [11]
Ticket system included
Yes
Depends on the vendor
No; the Employee Self-Service agent creates IT tickets through ServiceNow [9]
Yes
How the AI is billed
Varies: tier plus “assists” (ServiceNow), Rovo credits with an allowance in the plan, extra usage billed from 3 Dec 2026 (Atlassian), classic AI agent only in the Enterprise plan, AI Agent Studio free from Growth as a promotion until 31 Dec 2026 (Freshservice), AI as a separate product (Matrix42) [2][3][4][5]
No public price list, quotes through sales [8]
Copilot credits per answer, action, call minute and computer-use step [10]
nara: ITSM per employee per month, every module; nara plan with a fixed monthly allowance
How to measure the approaches
Some AI supports the IT team: it suggests category and priority, summarizes tickets and drafts answers. Other AI takes the request itself and sees it through. TOPdesk describes its AI as support that is not meant to replace people; its triage suggests category, priority and team. [12] Atlassian's Request Resolver runs resolution plans autonomously or under supervision, according to its documentation only for service requests. [13] Info-Tech places ServiceNow's autonomous AI specialists in the top tier, Prime. [2] With Matrix42, the AI chat is a technical preview according to its documentation. [14]
nara resolves incidents and service requests from the first message to closure and records every step in the ticket. You decide which steps need approval.
Ten questions for every vendor
Ask these questions of every vendor you compare. Each question comes with nara's answer.
nara
1. Which requests does the AI resolve itself, all the way to closure?
Incidents and service requests, from the first message to closure, every step in the ticket
2. Does that apply in every plan or only in a higher tier?
Every AI capability in every plan
3. Can employees reach the AI in Teams and by phone?
Teams chat, Teams calls, a normal phone number with caller recognition, web chat and the nara app
4. Can the AI act on the laptop without another product?
Yes, through nara Edge on Windows, macOS and Linux, outbound connections only
5. How does the AI work with systems that have no API?
With or without an API, for example Entra ID, SAP, HR and purchasing systems: nara works systems without an API through nara Edge, right on the device. You set permissions and approvals
6. Who sets approvals, and where is every action logged?
You decide which steps need approval; every action is recorded in the ticket
7. Where does the language model process your data, even at peak load?
Exclusively in the EU, no training on customer data; hosted in Germany, for large enterprises also in your own data center, AI included
8. What is the billing unit, and what comes on top?
ITSM €2.50 per employee per month (from the 1,001st: €1.75), every module, no licenses per IT agent; nara plan from €1,500 per month
9. Is a ticket system with SLAs, change management and a CMDB included?
Yes, a complete ITSM with SLA engine, change management, CMDB with discovery and license management
10. Who sets it up, and when is the AI productive?
You, in your own words and without consultants; alongside your current system in 1–2 weeks, full switch with history in about 6 weeks
Your tickets show what nara takes on.
With read access to your ticket system, we show within one to two weeks which requests nara handles from day one and how much time your team gets back. Behind it is the experience of more than 40 million tickets we have analyzed in customer projects.
